Jack McGuire Tried To Squash Your Personal Freedom To Eat

On April 13th, 2011, Jack McGuire (D-IL District 86), voted YES to the Trans Fat Bill, HB 1600, luckily on 5/26/11 the Illinois Senate voted NO on this bill.

This was a job-killing, anti-business, small-business strangling bill, which is another one in a long line of Jack McGuire’s anti-business bills.  Not only in January 2011 did Jack McGuire vote YES for the Largest Tax Increase in Illinois History (67%), on April 2011 he tried to do it again, by affecting the small business baker and wedding cake designer industries!

HB1600 is a bill which “tramples” over individuals personal freedoms (i.e. your freedom to eat what you want), its anti-business and with his YES vote on this bill, Jack is saying to his constituents: “You’re not smart enough to make your own decisions about your health… so I’ll do it for you!”  You can find the vote online at _____ .

If this bill would have passed it would have cost Illinois Bakeries, Wedding Cake Designers and Donut Shops across Illinois 10-15% of THEIR PROFITS!

As stated before, it would have also had a “damaging effect” on the Wedding Industry!!!

With the Trans Fat Restriction Act (HB 1600), artificial trans fats would have been banned in Illinois restaurants, movie theaters, bakeries and school vending machines by January, 2013. Government-funded cafeterias will have to get rid of trans fats by 2016.

"On a day like [in summer], when it's 92 degrees, if you aren't using trans fats (in icing), your wedding cake is not getting to the hall. It will melt," Chicago bakery owner John Roeser III.

Illinois Department of Public Health Statistics – 2009
Number of Marriages in Will County, Illinois = 2,653
Number of Marriages In All of Illinois = 72,821

So, all YOU COUPLES LOOKING TO GET MARRIED, be lucky that Jack McGuire wasn't the deciding vote on this issue... Because JACK WOULD HAVE AFFECTED 70,000+ WEDDINGS EACH YEAR / 2000+ EACH YEAR ALONE IN WILL COUNTY, with this Trans Fat Bill!  At an average of $540 (or more) per each wedding cake, how does an extra 10-20% being tacked on sound to you?  Aren't weddings expensive enough already?  And... How would your wedding cake look all FLAT AND MELTED?

For these reasons and many reasons more, we say Vote Jack McGuire Out in 2012!
