The Bill is called HB1080 (found here http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=1080&GAID=11&DocTypeID=HB&SessionID=84&GA=97 ) and its currently stalled in the rules committee in the Agriculture & Conservation Committee. And who's a member of that committee? You guessed it, Jack McGuire!
Other animal enthusiasts who oppose this legislation claim the legislation does the following:
"Illinois state law currently prohibits municipalities from passing breed-specific laws. HB 1080 would undo this prohibition and permit any municipality to declare dogs dangerous based on breed."
I know personally, from my own experience, that my sister owns a rottweiler, and its been around my (5-year old) son from practically from the date he was born, and, this dog wouldn't hurt a fly. He's one of the most kindest and gentle dogs I've seen. I don't think dogs are vicious, I think their trainer(s) fail to train the dog(s) to behave around humans in the proper manner.
If this bill rears its head in the future, and no amendments are added to its language, then please call your Representative and tell them "NO" to HB1080 and Don't Let Jack McGuire "Ban" Your Pet in Joliet! This is another bill that seeks to "help" citizens, but in effect is a small bill that "limits your personal freedoms" to buy and own a family pet of your choosing!
For these reasons and many more, we say Vote Jack McGuire Out in 2012!
